Obituary for Cheryl M. Eldh

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cheryl M. Eldh of Westport, CT on December 31, 2018. Cheryl was a dedicated wife, mother, friend and business woman.

Cheryl was born on March 22,1930 in Lincoln, Nebraska and spent her formative years in Waterloo, Iowa. She was accepted to St. Catherine’s College in Minneapolis, MN at the age of 16. She later transferred to and graduated from Iowa State University in 1950. There, in addition to her studies in Nutrition and Applied Sciences, she pledged the sorority of Kappa Alpha Theta. Her first job would be as a teacher in Des Plaines, IL.

Cheryl and her family spent their summers at Lake Kapetogama in Minnesota. It was there that Cheryl met her husband to be, Dick Eldh. They were married in 1952. They started their family in Hartsdale, NY, and later moved to Neenah, Wisconsin; Kirkwood, Missouri and finally Westport, CT in 1973. There, they lived for the next 45 years.

Throughout her lifetime, Cheryl’s achievements were many. With over 40 years of real estate experience in Fairfield County, she was ranked in the top 3% of realtors nationally for more than 20 years. Cheryl started her career at Westport East Real Estate and later joined First Realty Better Homes & Gardens as a principal. Prudential CT Realty followed, and Cheryl ended her career at Berkshire Hathaway, continuing as a top producer throughout. Among her industry honors, she was named Realtor of the Year, President of the Women's Council of Realtors and President of the Westport-Weston Board of Realtors. As a dedicated contributor to the realtor community, Cheryl was a member of the Mid-Fairfield Board of Realtors, the Connecticut Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

Cheryl’s commitment to the community at large was equally strong. She took active roles in many organizations, including the American Field Service, Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club, United Way of Westport-Weston, First Selectman's Town Reassessment Oversight Committee, Westport Historical Society and Westport Sunrise Rotary. She served as a member of the Board of Directors for Homes with Hope in Westport for over ten years. At St. Luke Church she was a member of the Women’s Group and also served as a Eucharistic Minister. Cheryl and Dick were co-Presidents of the Cotillion Club of Fairfield County.

Cheryl was deeply committed to her family. Her husband of 57 years, Dick predeceased her in 2009.
